  • Dried Red Chilies OR Red Button Chilies - 3-4
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Dark Soya Sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Hoisin Sauce - (Homemade or store-bought) 2-3 tbsp
  • Brown Sugar - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon or to taste, (keep in mind sauces have already salt content in them and marinated beef also has some salt, so adjust accordingly)
  • Black Pepper Powder - 1/4 teaspoons or to taste
  • Chicken broth(stock) - OR Water, 1/4 cup
  • Spring Onion - 04, sliced into quarters, plus 1 chopped green onion for garnish
  • Cornstarch Slurry: - 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with ¼ Cup water
  • Sesame oil - 2 teaspoons
  • Sesame Seeds - Toasted, for Garnishing

Cooking Method:

Step#1: Marinating the Beef

In a large bowl, toss beef slices with 2 teaspoons of oil, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 2 tablespoons of the cornstarch until fully coated. Marinate for 30 minutes.

Step#2: Making the Sauce

In a small saucepan over medium flame, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Add chopped garlic and ginger, dried chilies and spring onion (white part only) and cook until fragrant for 2 minutes.

Add Soy sauce, homemade Hoisin Sauce, chicken stock (or water) and lastly brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer on low heat.

Step#3: Stir Fry the Marinated Beef

Meanwhile, in a large skillet over medium flame, heat remaining oil and stir fry the marinated beef and sear until crispy, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Drain excess oil. Set aside.

Step#4: Make Ready!

Now add the cornstarch slurry into the sauce to make it thick and glossy and keep mixing with a spoon till desired consistency. (until the sauce coats the back of a spoon.)
Now add the cooked beef slices and toss in the sauce until all the beef is well-coated. Cook for another 10-20 seconds. All of the sauce should be clinging to the beef. If you find the sauce is a little thick, add more broth or water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to adjust the consistency of the sauce as per your desire.
Add sesame oil 2 teaspoons and green onions sliced into quarters and toss until combined, then simmer a few more minute.Garnish with a few chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
