1. Take care of the scalp 

The scalp or the skin covering the head is like the skin on the body, but with a greater number of large, terminal hair follicles. Diet and nutrition, hygiene practices, type and usage of hair care products, etc. affect scalp health, growth of follicular units and hair.   

Massage the scalp regularly to stimulate blood circulation. This will help channel more nutrients to hair roots and follicles, improving the growth and quality of hair. Scalp massages also help relieve anxiety and stress which are known to cause hair fall.


2. Conditioning

Your scalp, as well as hair strands, need to stay moisturized, hydrated and nourished. Use a shampoo that’s moisturizing or follow up your shampoo with conditioner.  Remember to not use conditioner on the scalp. 



3. Prevent Hair Breakage

Treat hair gently to avoid breakage and hair fall – detangle hair before shampooing and avoid combing hair when wet. Use wide-toothed non-static comb.  


Note: Frequent use of hair ties and clips that are too tight can make roots weak and cause hair to fall.


4. Avoid Hot Water

Hot water can strip the scalp and hair of natural oils, making them dry. To remove dirt and grime easily, shampoo with lukewarm water and finish with cold water as a final rinse to close the cuticle.



Some Homemade Ingredients For Hair Care

- Honey

Honey is rich in antioxidants that keep scalp and hair healthy and its antibacterial and antiseptic qualities prevent scalp infections and issues like dandruff, psoriasis, and eczema.

 How to use: Take honey and coconut or olive oil in equal amounts in a bowl and mix well.     Massage this into the scalp and hair and rinse with water or using shampoo after 15-20 minutes.

- Aloe vera

Packed with several active ingredients like essential amino acids and minerals, aloe gel boosts hair growth and health. Being anti-inflammatory in nature, aloe vera soothes the scalp and prevents scalp irritation and aggravation of skin conditions.

How to use: Take a cup of aloe vera gel and mix in two tablespoons of castor oil. Apply this evenly to the scalp and hair and allow to sit for 1-2 hours. Rinse off with water or use a mild shampoo.

- Eggs

Eggs are a rich source of proteins, vitamins, and fatty acids which are essential for hair health. Antioxidants present in eggs help repair hair damage and lutein helps hydrate hair and improve elasticity, curb breakage, and prevent split ends.

How to use:Whisk a whole egg with a tablespoon of olive oil until combined. Apply to hair and put on a hair cap to prevent making a mess. Leave on for 20-30 minutes and rinse with cool water. Shampoo and condition if required.

- Green Tea

Green tea boosts hair growth and also prevents hair fall owing to its catechin content which works to reduce the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DTH) responsible for hair loss.

How to use: Brew a couple of bags of green tea in a cup of hot water for 30-45 minutes. allow the brew to cool and use as a final rinse after shampooing. Alternatively, mix freshly brewed green tea with aloe gel and massage it into the scalp and hair. Wait for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with cool water.


- Yogurt

Yogurt is packed with vitamins like B5 and D and can nourish the scalp to boost hair growth. It is also conditions hair, treats dandruff and improves the luster and quality of hair apart from preventing hair loss.

How to use: 

1. Soak a couple of tablespoons of fenugreek seeds overnight and grind to a paste the next morning. Mix this paste with about half a cup of yogurt to make a hair mask. Apply evenly to scalp and hair. Rinse after 30 minutes.

2. Another easy hair mask recipe is mixing a teaspoon of lemon juice with half a cup of yogurt. You can also make a hair mask by mixing yogurtwith ingredients like aloe vera gel, coconut or olive oil, and eggs.
