  • 3 potatoes (boiled & mashed)
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder (roasted)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp chaat masala powder
  • 2 tbsp mint (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp coriander (chopped)
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp corn flour
  • 1 Tsp Kasuri methi
  • Oil ( for frying)

Firstly, in a large mixing bowl take 3 boiled and mashed potatoes. Make sure to pressure cook potatoes for 4-5 whistles and drain off the water as soon as pressure releases else they will absorb the water and become mushy.

Add 1 green chilli, ¼ tsp turmeric and ½ tsp chilli powder, also add ½ tsp roasted cumin powder, ½ tsp chaat masala and ½ tsp salt. Further, add 2 tbsp mint and 2 tbsp coriander.

Now add 2 tbsp cornflour and mix well alternatively the rice flour can be used as it helps to absorb moisture.

Mix well forming a soft dough. Grease your hand with oil and prepare ball-sized tikki.

Shallow fry in hot oil. Fry on low flame until it turns golden brown. Flip over and cook on both sides.

Finally, enjoy aloo ki tikki with green chutney, tamarind chutney or prepare aloo tikki chaat.

Recipe Notes:

  • Firstly, do not overcook the potatoes as they absorb water and turn mushy.
  • Additionally, you can also add peas to have a variation.
  • You can coat aloo ki tikki in a well-beaten thin besan-water mixture, then fry.
  • Or coat in well-beaten egg then roll in bread crumbs for extra crunch and then fry.
  • Also, fry on low flame to get a crispy coating.
  • Finally, aloo ki tikki recipe tastes great when served hot and crispy.
